Video Evidence Emerges in Mumbai

The incident occurred at a healthcare centre in the Mumbai metropolitan region. The video, timestamped and verified by local media outlets, shows Mhatre approaching a woman doctor inside what appears to be a consultation room. Multiple witnesses are visible in the background of the recording. Within seconds of entering the frame, Mhatre can be seen raising his hand and striking the doctor.

The footage spread rapidly across platforms including X and WhatsApp groups commonly used by Mumbai residents to share local news. By evening, several neighbourhood welfare associations had issued statements demanding accountability. The Mumbai Police confirmed they received complaints related to the incident and stated an initial inquiry was underway.

Corporator's Defence: 'Did Nothing Wrong'

When approached for comment, Mhatre refused to apologise. Through a written statement released by his office, the Shiv Sena corporator maintained that his conduct was justified and that he did nothing wrong. The statement did not elaborate on what provoked the incident or provide any further detail. Shiv Sena's official spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, saying the party was still reviewing the footage.

Mhatre represents a ward in the northern suburbs of Mumbai. He has served as a corporator for two terms and is known within local party circles for his proximity to senior Shiv Sena leadership. His current term was elected in 2022.
